Context

We were approached by Edgbaston who had very basic traffic management plans in place for event days and acknowledged that this was not fit-for-purpose and required a strategic and operational overhaul, redesigned and integrated with other stakeholders including train and bus operators, TfWM and additional stakeholders to ensure a joined-up approach, not only to traffic management but also for the wider transport strengthening on event days.

What we did
  • Peer review of existing plans
  • Consulted with relevant stakeholders, partners and clients to understand needs and risks
  • Identified key issues and risks
  • Developed and formalised plans and measures including counter-terror mitigations
  • Developed residential and parking schemes in keeping with appropriate statutes and measures
  • Designed and delivered green field parking solutions for core client groups
  • Designed and developed access control solutions
  • Road closures, signage and asset scoping including FF&E and staff
  • Implemented during event days and continue to do so
  • Refined as and when the environment changes e.g. new construction
Conclusion

A successful design and implementation of zone ex, widely regarded by Sports Ground Safety Authority as the best in class for a cricket ground. Now entering 5th year of delivery.
